The City is excited about the new improvements to Gay Lemon Park. Improvements include updates to the concessions building and restrooms.
The concessions building has been demolished and will be replaced with an open pavilion area to accommodate the provision of concessions and an additional covered area connected to the softball fields and restrooms.
The restroom building will also be renovated and updated.
To address both accessibility and poor drainage, the project will include installing a new concrete foundation around the existing bathroom building, which will tie in the new pavilion slab. The current facility had a separate “awning” that connected the concessions building with the rear of the softball fields. This area will be included in the new pavilion area to provide seamless overhead coverage.
Along with these improvements, the City will enhance the park to provide new dugouts, fencing, and lighting, and allow for the creation of a playground area in underutilized greenspace. The playground will enhance the existing amenities to provide a neighborhood park to the adjacent neighborhoods where they are currently without a kid's playground. The existing parking area will be re-paved and striped in coordination with Jackson County.
Funding is provided in the party by the Land and Water Conservation Fund, Administered by the National Park Service U.S. Department of the Interior.
