Overview
The Zoning Adjustment Board (ZAB) consists of five members appointed by the Board of Aldermen. It has the power to hear and recommend on administrative appeals from any decision of the Planning Director, Public Works Official or Building Official. In addition, it has the authority to recommend variances from the standard zoning district regulations where a piece of property has exceptional narrowness, shallowness or shape or exceptional topographical conditions and which would result in peculiar and exceptional practical difficulties to the owner of the property. All recommendations of the ZAB are forwarded to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen for final approval.
