The Building Board of Adjustment and Appeals is composed of members who possess the necessary experience and training to make informed decisions on matters related to building construction. These members are not employees of the City of Ocean Springs.
The Building Board of Adjustment and Appeals is appointed by the governing body and is responsible for hearing and deciding appeals regarding orders, decisions, or determinations made by the Building Official concerning the interpretation and application of adopted building codes.
The Building Official shall serve as an ex officio member of the Board but shall not have voting rights on any matters. All decisions and findings of the Board must be provided in writing to the appellant, with a copy also sent to the Building Official.
The Board does not have the authority to waive any code requirements. It shall be composed of five voting members, each serving a term of five years or until a successor is appointed.
